Excellent 3D printing filament designed for investment casting. Customers said it "burned out completely" and "leaves no/little ash" during lost-wax casting. Amazing quality filament reached expectations

Last year I bought 2 polycast filaments, everything was great, shipment arrived at the according time frame but the issue was that one of the filaments was a Polymax PLA (which is cheaper than the polycast). We couldn't make a refund request since we didn't realize this after like 2 months of buying it because it was a buy for just testing the polycast material so we didn't open the box until two months later.Other than that the material is an amazing quality and it completely reached our expectations. I just hope that now that we are buying more everything arrives as expected.

PolyCast Synthetic Investment Casting Wax

PolyCast is an excellent synthetic investment casting wax filament that can be 3D printed. Detail reproduction is good for most applications. Casters report that for thick section parts some ash occasionally remains otherwise they say it integrates well into their investment process. Alcohol sealing often smooths or rounds the edges of details.

Prints Well But Needs Dryer

It prints well at .10 on my Prusa Mk3. I will warn you that it absorbs moisture very quickly. If you don't have a filament dryer you will not will have unusable filament by the third print.

Great PLA for lost casting

This PLA leaves no/little ash or remains during lost PLA casting. I tried to get creative and use this with a brass pour on top of the PLA without melting it out beforehand, just to see what would happen. The PLA material remained and only the top had been melted. Don't judge, I was curious.

Burned out completely printed fine

It took longer than expected but did burn out completely from my plaster mold. Printed fine with settings shown in spool.

Prints well for clean casting

This product burned out 100% it looks like. Other Poly products like polymax and polysmooth will print so much better. But these other polys will not burn clean for casting. Polycast will burn clean. You will get ash from the others. I have used at least 10 rolls and getting the settings right is still an ongoing process. I am now using 60 degrees C, for the bed and after 5 layers going up to 75. this will keep the part stuck. When the bed cools off the part will break off. Prints well enough to get a good looking casting. You can sand the part to get lines out. Put it in polisher for a smooth finish. Using the prints for lost wax casting. If you are using for silicon casting or epoxy cast maybe use a better printing product like polymax. REX

What is the recommended process for dewaxing? My test piece formed a viscous glue-like state rather than a liquidous state found in microcrystalline wax. It was difficult to remove before burnout.

Polymaker

PolyCast does not have a separate dewaxing step documented. It is a PVB pattern material with 0% wax content, so it won’t behave like microcrystalline wax. The recommended process is to burn it out directly.
Use this guidance:
- Burnout temperature: 1,100–1,200°C for complete burnout
- If your kiln cannot reach that range, the documented workaround is a much longer burn cycle
- If you dissolve supports or introduce moisture, dry the pattern first and consider more shell layers, since internal moisture can increase shell cracking during burnout

The glue-like or viscous state you saw is consistent with PolyCast’s behavior. It is not documented to liquefy like wax before burnout.
