Printing Tips

  • Use a wear-resistant nozzle, such as hardened steel or ruby, because the carbon-fiber reinforcement is abrasive.
  • Store and print under dry conditions (relative humidity below 20%); dry at 100°C for 10 hours before use.
  • Use a 40-50°C build plate, and turn the cooling fan OFF; an actively heated chamber is not required.
  • Use glue stick or Magigoo PA if bed adhesion is weak.
  • If the material is used as its own support, remove the support before excessive moisture absorption to avoid permanent bonding.
  • Anneal at 100°C for 16 hours when the annealed performance stated in the TDS is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers. From choosing the right material to caring for your spools, here's everything you need to know in one spot.

What is annealing?

You can find out more about annealing HERE

What is moisture conditioning?

Moisture conditioning refers to allowing the print to absorb moisture. This is inevitble since nylons are hygroscopic, but you can expedite the process by keeping the print in a high humidity climate, or submerging them in water, for 48 hours. All of our test specimens were annealed at 100˚C for 16 hours, and then immerged in water at 60˚C for 48 hours. The average moisture content of specimens is 2.57%.

Should I anneal before or after moisture conditioning?

When you anneal in a convection oven, you will dry the part out. So if you moisture condition before annealing - you will need to moisture condition again after. So we would suggest to moisture condition after annealing.

Why do you use such a low build plate temperature with your nylons?

Our nylons come with our Warp-Free™ Technology. In order for this Warp-Free™ technology to work as it should - we want to make sure the build plate and the ambient air temperatures are both below 50˚C. We then anneal the print after to get it's full strength.

Learn more HERE

Will the spools work in an AMS?

Yes! We have redesigned the edges of our spools so all Polymaker products will now spin great in the AMS.

That said - you will need to be careful when using any abrasive materials in the AMS.

Can you offer 1KG Fiberon™ Spool Options?

Unfortunately we are not offering 1KG Fiberon™ options and this has to do with the increased chance of carbon fiber and glass fiber filament snapping on the spool.

Since carbon fiber and glass fiber filament is more brittle, we spool these with a larger core. This larger core means that 1KG of filament will not fit on a 1KG spool.

Reviews

Customers praised this carbon fiber-reinforced nylon for "excellent strength and impact resistance" with "zero warping" and "dimensionally perfect prints." Many noted it requires proper drying and printer calibration for best results. Popular for demanding applications including tools and functional parts. Minor feedback mentioned limited spool size options.

Easy PA printing, looks amazing

Easy introduction to PA printing and it looks amazing. Supports are easily removable with minimal tuning, no issues with warping, and the parts are incredibly strong. The only reason it is 4/5 stars is due to not having the option to buy a full kg spool or even 2kg or 3kg bulk option. It makes printing a series of prints more convoluted than needed due to having to account for every limited gram on the roll and doubles the end of roll waste unless you have a system with a multi-material unit.

Amazing filament, horrible spools

One of the best nylon carbon fiber filaments to print with but unfortunately. Almost every spool when printing when you’ve used 25-30% of the spool the filament will get pinched against the inner side wall of the cardboard spool resulting in a very he printer finishing with an unfinished print. Right now I’ve purchased over 20 of the .5kg rolls and about 7-8 of the 3kg rolls.

I’m not sure if cardboard is chosen for pricing or being environmentally friendly but it’s not working when I have to respool or throw away unused filament!

We are very sorry for the issues here! This should not be happening! Can you reach out to support@Polymaker.com with order details and further information so we can look into this?

This is by far my favorite nylon to print

This is by far my favorite nylon to print. Prints come out looking amazing and seems to be a little more forgiving and easy to print than some of the other nylons. You DEFINITELY need to dry it before printing even if it's a brand new spool.

Light and stiff

This is my go to filament if I want something that is light weight and stiff. This stuff prints very well, great dimensional stability and the parts look great with the slightly rough surface finish.

This is some amazing filament

This is some amazing filament. Incredibly strong and I've been getting beatiful print quality on my P1S. I'd say it handles overhangs better than some PLA I've worked with. Only complaint is it will absorb some moisture over time. I once had it in a drybox that was heated for about 3 days and some holes came out undersized and I could see the affects of the moisture on the print quality. Great price - will continue to buy!

Strong, easy to print, very consistent

Easy to print (as far as PA goes), great results using the recommended settings. I'm using it to print tools, parts, and jigs where PETG just doesn't cut it and if you truly dislike printing ABS (as I do)

Exceptional plastic for super hard parts

It Takes a 'LOT" to impress me and the Plastic Polymaker PA 612 really gets it together!.Now Nylon is One of the Hardest Things to print right, But its also rewarding as if done right it makes some of the hardest parts ever!...Its an Exceptional Filament and for real as it can take real punishment, But its fairly easy to print and makes some good parts without exception!.In short its a specialty plastic as frankly not everyone needs a Workpiece super hard , And its a Higher priced Item tho there are others more costly!.But out of like 30 differing and yes costly plastic from different firms only 3 outa some 30 odd plastics pass the Supreme Test which is where i just simply jump up and down on the finished part and it 'DONT' break!.Seriously This Is Some Really Good stuff as I'm 165 and I cant just break it, So this stuff its that good!.PLUSES:It is really Super Hard stuff!.It has a slight flexibility so its not 'Too Likely' to just crack or fall apart!.Unless you go crazy with Heat its not real great on warping!...It may not be right for all applications, Like Marine use as Nylons will absorb Water but for Parts!.,..MINUSES:Its Good Even Excellent but its costly tho It will meet a need!.It like other 'Hard Plastics' It can be can be hard, To dial in but its workable!...Like any other Tool it depends on your Skill level, Plus your willingness to Adapt!.Now my first Test Part was junk! My Second was passable, But i still needed Help then i remembered a Tip from an earlier reviewer that at times if you 'Cant' get something dialed in you can use CURA profiles to find a workable answer.OK I tried several but the one that seemed to work best with My Printer an Ender 3max was:Emotion Tech Nylon 1070!.The Basics seemed close enough to work as i only changed a couple of factors but here are the Specifics!.SPEED 45Heat Start at 261, then afterthe 1st layer run the part at 258!BED Start at 65!After the 1st layer drop to 50 or 55!...Speed is what works best for your Machine tho im doing well at!SPEED 40 to 45!.....I heat dry my plastic, and let my Printer warm up on ABM settings for about a half hour!.And run the Filament in straight and hot from the dryer and im getting some nice parts!.Its a Great Plastic once you learn to use it!.....Hope this Helps!IndianaED.....

What are some good settings for me to use this filament using Prusaslicer? I’ve dried the filament, prints decent, but I do have some heavy strings/artifacts.

Using a .6 nozzle, and Core One L.
