Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers. From choosing the right material to caring for your spools, here's everything you need to know in one spot.

What is the difference between PolyLite™ PLA, PolyMax™ PLA and PolyLite™ PLA Pro?

Short answer:
PolyLite™ PLA is a very rigid material with very low impact resistance.
PolyMax™ PLA is an extremely ductile material with high impact resistance and durability.
PolyLite™ PLA Pro is the best of both worlds combining excellent rigidity and high impact strength.

Long answer in our live experiment here.

Will the spools work in an AMS?

Yes! We have redesigned the edges of our spools so all Polymaker products will now spin great in the AMS.

Is this material food safe?

Unfortunately we do not have any data whether this material is food safe. As of now, no 3D printing material on the market is FDA food safe compliant. This is because in order to be certified as food safe, the actual object needs to be certified and not the base material. The shape, bed used, environment the object was made, and much more goes into getting a food safety certificate. As of now there is no real certification that the FDA offers for 3D printing.

Do you sell refills?

We are sorry but we do not sell refills at this time

Is this material recyclable?

Unfortunately there is no great answer for recycling PLA at this time. Our cardboard spools are biodegradable but there is no great way to recycle PLA at this time.

Customers praised this filament as "the most reliable" and "second to none" for its exceptional strength and print quality. Many noted "bright colors," clean prints, and excellent layer adhesion. Large 5kg spools minimize waste for extended prints. Some concerns about new formula causing unpredictable printing and worse layer adhesion. A few delivery/clogging issues reported.

Most reliable filament that I have used! Will buy again.

Most reliable filament that I have used! The PLA Pro is also substantially stronger and does not break the way that regular PLA does under certain stress conditions. I use this for most of my mechanical prototyping!

Polylite PLA Pro this is the way!!!

Coming from Sunlu experience, this filament is really the best out there. I went from a .4mm nozzle to .8mm nozzle and still printed very great with no inconsistencies. This is truly great filament for the price.

Love the PLA PRO since it launched

Love the PLA PRO since it launched. Really enjoying t the new formula also.
Great filament for strength and function without the high price tag. It prints easily and with little shrinkage. Looking forward to testing out the new lineup!

Excellent quality filament

Excellent quality filament. I've used over 10 rolls of this color alone so far, and each one is perfectly wound with no tangling. The color is a pleasant neutral white that isn't very bright, almost like a porcelain white. No stringing with my A1 printer either. Best to print at 55 degrees Celsius. Polymaker is my favorite filament brand.

Slow and steady wins the race

We have used Polymaker PLA Pro for quite a few years. It has incredible strength and layer adhesion for a PLA, and is very consistent with excellent detail performance. It's likely the best all around PLA that Polymaker offers.

This is not a particularly high speed filament, however. That's not really a problem, just an observation. Run your max flow rate tests to see where it stands and back off at least 10 or 15%.

Hands down the strongest PLA I have used yet

This is hands down the strongest PLA I have used yet. It was a learning curve as my house is very hot so I had to find the perfect temperature but after it was fine-tuned it's printing flawlessly!

PLA PRO prints beautifully matte finish

Polymaker PLA PRO meets most of my same strength and toughness requirements as PETG (apart from temperature resistance) and prints beautifully in a nice matte finish (and my highly modified 4-year-old Ender 3 Pro NEVER prints anything beautifully.) Seriously, if they made this in a sparkly Galaxy Black I'd buy it by the crate and replace at least half my colored filaments. For higher-temperature or outdoor applications I'll be working through my supply of PETG then switch to ASA for those (relatively few) prints, and eventually get a modern printer that can handle the really exotic engineering filaments. PLA PRO will probably remain my go-to workhorse.

Nice Color Good Filament

Like many others here, I found the filament to be very nice and the color to be exactly what I was looking for. I have had some issues with adhesion to the build plate, so much so that I ordered a new plate (still had issues). I tried everything from releveling the bed, adding heat (50-65 degrees), and still I had some issues. I ended up going back to my old bed, which added surface imperfections, but adhered well.Overall, I think i still have some settings to dial in. The color is good, and so far I have found the filament to be good for my applications.

Fantastic PLA PRO prints beautifully strong

I had been using a competing PLA+ product for quite some time until I got fed up with its legendary tendency to tangle, and after reading reviews on various sites, decided to give this a try instead. This ended up being a fantastic choice. I first printed a temperature tower using black (I bought a black + white bundle), and although 205C ended up being the best result for my Ender 3 S1 Pro, the fact is that bridging worked beautifully for every temperature between 180C and 220C, with a solid sheen from 200C to 215C. Stringing was very minimal, and fine details were best from 200C-210C.I next printed a kickstand for my ROG Ally which involved a lot of bridging of up to 30mm. I decided to use no supports for those, and only added one minimal support (4mm/25%/triangular) wherever something would otherwise be sticking out into thin air. Despite using a 10mm/4 layer skirt, I had a bit of adherence problems on the smaller piece that was curved along the bottom, but this was fixed by adding a support there too. The resulting print (shown in the photo) was beautiful; glossy and strong. No problems removing it from the print bed; the only problem I had was the tedium of cutting away the skirt, which did not pull away easily. (Next time I'll go with 2 layers instead of 4 and see how that works.) I had no tangling problems at all.I'm very pleased with this PLA PRO filament, and I will definitely be buying more in other colors.
